Cutting the Cord
I was born and you lost yourself.
You tried to find your way back through me. Through my eyes. Through my ears. Through my mouth. Through my hands.
And that’s how we lived. Intertwined. In harmony.
Or at least that’s how I saw it at first. How it felt. That it was support and validation. Love. Belonging.
Until my eyes wanted to see things differently. And my ears rang like alarm bells. My mouth said things you didn’t like. My hands rejected your hands and instead clenched into fists.
That was when I realized we weren’t intertwined. You had taken over.
Your hands were really talons. Your eyes black holes. Your mouth spitting vitriol.
Your ears deaf to my soul’s cries that you were crushing it. Fracturing it.
Annihilating me. Again and again. Until I lost myself, too.
